About Our Pastor
My name is Everett Powell. I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior at the age of fifteen at Rivermont Baptist Church. At age twenty, I answered His call into full-time Christian service while attending Chester Gap Baptist Church. Believing a call to serve is a call to train, I enrolled at Clear Creek Baptist College in Pineville, Kentucky. In my fourth year there, I met and married Jennifer Gambrel. We have been married and serving together for thirty years. She loves Christ and shares my call to ministry.
My family is a precious heritage from God. My first priority is being all that a husband and a father need to be.
God has gifted me in the areas of encouragement and one-on-one evangelism. It is enjoyable for me to make visits throughout the communities. I enjoy equipping people for service and seeing the individual members come together to make the body of Christ.
Theologically, I am a conservative. I believe the Bible “was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error, for its matter.” (Baptist Faith and Message). I will not spend one second of time in negative denominational politics. I believe Promise Keepers was a God-send to our world, as well as Women of Faith. True Bible-believing churches should work together as much as possible to extend Christ’s Kingdom.
I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus; His complete divinity; His substitutional death, burial and resurrection; and His imminent physical return.
God empowers and equips His church through spiritual gifting. The gifts of the Spirit have a purpose for glorifying God and building up the church. It is my greatest desire to be so yielded to God that the fruit of His Spirit is evidenced in my life.
